David fighting Goliath
This bronze sculpture was created by Paul-Maximilien Landowski, a French sculptor of Polish origin, in 1900. The artist had received the Prix de Rome for this work.
The sculpture was purchased in 1921 by Mr. and Mrs. Carl Busch Thorne. It was offered to the city of Témiscaming in 1959 by Mrs. Thorne.
Mr. Carl Busch Thorne, an engineer of Norwegian origin, directed the construction of the Témiscaming factory and town. He and his wife were avid art enthusiasts and patrons. Over the years, they endowed the city of Témiscaming with several works of art: a fountain topped with the god Neptune, a Venetian well, a statue of Lady Spring, a painting of the Holy Family, and the statue of David fighting Goliath.
In Témiscaming, the fountain and the Venetian well adorn Kipawa Street, Lady Spring is located inside the town hall, and David proudly stands outside the building.
